While many believe that all of their payroll taxes are exempt from deposit, that is simply not true. The only item that an employer may retain from their payroll deposit is the employer's portion of social security. Employers must still deposit, the employee's federal tax withholdings, the employee's social security witholdings, the employee's medicare witholdings and the employer's contribution to medicare. This last is very important because many thought that the employer's contribution to medicare could be withheld from the deposit.
